CASE STUDY: HARPER'S BAZAAR WOMEN OF THE YEAR

We've been lucky enough to work on Harper's Bazaar's Women of the Year Awards for three years running. The prestigious event, held annually in Claridges, London, celebrates the achievements of inspiring women within various different industries. We were required to provide full coverage of the awards ceremony, including the arrival of the A-list celebrities, the ceremony itself, and interviews with the award winners. 

CONSTRAINTS AND CHALLENGES

At such a sophisticated event, it was important for the crew to fit in with the other attendees. We all dressed for the occasion and filmed in suits, doing our best to remain discreet in order to capture the most organic, engaging content and cinematic shots. 

One of the main pressures of the project was the turnaround time. The shoot ran from 7pm - 11pm, then we had until 8am the next morning to edit 1 Main Highlights film, 2 Sponsor Highlights films and 5 Interview edits!

THE METHOD

We provided a crew of 8 on the night (4 cam ops, 2 audio ops, 1 producer and 1 DIT) and used the following equipment:

  • RED Cameras for Red Carpet slowmo shots
  • Sony FS7s for longform awards coverage
  • Sony A7Smkii for intimate, discreet filming of guests.

CONCLUSION

We successfully completed all deliveries on time with minimal amends. All sponsor requirements were met and the highlight film was featured on the official Harper's Bazaar website and social feeds.
