CASE STUDY: OVERNIGHT EDIT ON AN SAS SURVIVAL CAMP

MO-MISSION: CELEBRITY SAS CHALLENGE

Movember is a global charity committed to changing the face of men's health. They rely on unique and innovative content to push donations and interest from the public. The Mo-Mission matched 6 celebrities with ex SAS members from the Channel 4 series SAS, Who Dares Wins in a 24hour survival experience.

We had to produce a video content package that primarily consisted of two highlight films of the experience. Video 1 was to be edited onsite and delivered the same day, 12 hours into the experience. Video 2 was a full highlights edit, to be delivered 5 hours after the event ended.

CONSTRAINTS AND CHALLENGES

The survival experience was designed to simulate a full 24 hours in a hostile, rural environment. RiseMedia had to go through the full challenge alongside the celebrity talent; this meant our cam ops had to navigate forests, rivers and swamps with lightweight camera and audio equipment. In order to hit the edit deadlines, we set up a mobile edit suite at base camp, and used a 4x4 to run cards from the action to our editor. We split our production crew into two teams, one team to cover the first 12 hours, and the second team to cover the nighttime activities.

THE METHOD

We shot this using a Sony FS7 and two Sony A7Smkii’s alongside a lightweight drone.
